I acquired a sandwich press toaster and made two delicious meals, using it as one would a standard toaster, instead of using it to heat a completed meal on a roll or sandwich already made up.
Usually, the sandwich press toaster reheats the contents and leaves the one side of the bread untoasted, and I found this resulted in an unpleasant taste.
Now, I toast the bread first on both sides until it reaches a golden colour, and then the hot food is spooned onto a slice of toasted bread.
The remaining toasted bread is placed on top of the hot food and gently moved to the centre. Lower the top plate onto the toast below and press down. The appliance will indicate when it’s time to take it out.
Here are two examples of meals I prepare using this sandwich press toaster:
Use a separate bowl for the salad mix;
Choose raw baby leaves, carrots, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and celery.
Salad dressing in a cup;
Add one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
One large clove of garlic finely grated.
A quarter teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt.
Half a squeeze of lemon juice.
Stir well and pour this mixture directly into the raw salad, and toss.
Remove the toasted bread from the sandwich press toaster and place both slices on a dinner plate.
Lift a small amount of salad mix using tongs, place it on one of the toasted slices and use the other toasted slice to cover the salad mix. Do not reheat in the sandwich press toaster.
Here is the second meal:
Use a non-stick frypan for this meal; add a dash of water and extra virgin olive oil to the pan, just covering the base.
Add a selection of frozen winter mixed vegetables and peas to the frypan.
Use high heat to defrost the vegetables and turn the heat to medium when vegetables are simmering.
Boil water and add to a teaspoon of vegetable stock powder, stir well in a cup to dissolve. Pour into the vegetable mix for added flavour.
Ensure no liquid is taken up with the vegetables when spooning and placing it on one of the toasts whilst it is in the toaster. Otherwise, it will saturate the toast.
Place the other toast over the hot vegetables and move it to the centre, lower the top plate on the toast below and press down gently.
