Edema (Fluid Retention)

For those of you who have fluid retention, I can sympathise with you. I inherited it from my mother, who, in turn, got it from her mother. My mother suffered from this condition all of her life, and so did her mother.

In the days when I was growing up, there was no known cure or control over this condition. The only relief I could find then was visiting a Doctor who prescribed pills that increased fluid excretion. A retiring Doctor suggested that I should not take too many prescription drugs over some time as this would damage my kidneys.

Excess fluid retained by my body happened some months ago, and it occurred by settling in the feet and ankles; however, it has now surfaced halfway up on my calves.

Edema (Fluid Retention)I have researched this condition and have read about problems that may be present and started the accumulation of foodstuffs within my body to produce this outcome.

I am no longer eating the foods that I suspect contributed to this condition and have added some foods, according to my research, that may benefit the Edema by balancing the fluid and repairing any damage done to the tissues through the constant painful swelling.

I have introduced a plant-based protein drink recently to my diet, and I take a scoop of powder in a 10 oz size glass of filtered water morning and evening. Time will tell whether this works!

Surprisingly, after drinking the plant-based protein drink on the third day, I felt changes in my body. What changes? It was too soon to tell. I reduced the protein shake to one scoop a day and found while taking it; my pain eased with the swelling. I now have feet, ankles and calves, which look healthy and no pain.

Excess Sodium in my body causes fluid retention, and by replacing the foods with high sodium content to a lower level and adding a protein shake to my diet, correct it.

I asked a pharmacist what the difference is between table salt and Sodium. Salt has two components “Sodium and Chloride” the second part is considered unstable to use in foods, so Sodium is used instead.
