Budget Smoothie Recipe by Natures Trinity

I observed a lady at a supermarket selecting fruit and vegetables by only one or two. My curiosity caused me to approach the lady to ask why she was choosing her food this way.

All she said to me was, look at the prices and then she walked away. I stood there momentarily, and I thought, I wonder whether I could apply this method to my blends. I worked out how many fruits to buy to make this work.

For a month I tested this out. I am now using four fruits from each category plus a selection of vegetation, and I called it The Budget Smoothie.

The Budget Smoothie
(Serves 3 – standard glass size)

  • Use half a leaf of each kale, red and white stemmed Silver beet leaves
  • Use a small amount of parsley
  • A little fresh Peppermint
  • Add a small baby carrot
  • Half a fresh banana or half frozen
  • A small pinch of Blueberries
  • Three strawberries
  • One Teaspoon of Maca
  • One small pinch of Organic Coconut Flakes
  • One teaspoon of Fennel seeds
  • One small part of Star Anise
  • One Teaspoon of Hemp seeds

Method:

  1. Rinse the apple and pear cut each in half, remove the seeds and add both to the blender.
Place both of the unused portions for the next day’s blend on a plate or in a bowl.
  2. Cut the orange in two and place the unpeeled portion on a plate or bowl. Peel the other half of the orange leaving the pith on and include it into the blend.
  3. Bananas can be used fresh or frozen, when frozen it can be easily cut in half otherwise leave wholenatures-trinity-budget-smoothie if small either frozen or fresh.
  4. Break the leaves off the kale, red and creamed stem silverbeet leaves, use only half of each of the leaves.
  5. Remove the greens from the strawberries.
  6. Rinse, trim and roughly chop the baby carrot, remove the ends and place in the blender.
  7. Add the remainder of the ingredients listed above, into the blender.

Enjoy!

P.S.

I used to purchase my fruit in bags/packets and I found most fruit I was throwing out as it started to show signs of deterioration. Since I have used four fruits in each of the categories mentioned in the The Budget Smoothie, I can honestly say the fruit is consumed by end of the week. (No Wastage and reduction of plastic bags and containers). I use my own bag to carry the loose fruits and vegetables. I use fruits and vegetables that are in season only.
