The purpose of each reincarnation is a period of learning. We acquire knowledge and wisdom, character and ethical values, and at the end of each life, as we enter the spiritual world of our afterlife, we are what we made of ourselves in this life. It is a continuous advancement to a higher degree of evolution in each life span on Earth,
Often, we make plans for our lives, setting goals we want to attain or feats we wish to achieve. There is no reason why our dreams should not come true if they align with our Karma. Failure is merely due to the incompleteness of our spiritual evolution, the imperfection of the spirit essential for the task it takes to make our dream a reality. It should not happen too often if our goal is not set too far ahead of our spiritual advancement.
We must be careful what we “nourish” our spirit with, as what we think with our brain and enter the spirit body makes us what we are. One who believes and plots murder is not far from becoming a murderer, whilst one who thinks good and constructive thoughts becomes a better person. It behooves us to think only thoughts conducive to spiritual growth and personal well-being. The saying ‘thou soweth, thou shalt also reap’ is true.
In each incarnation, we add to what we had gathered from the previous one, thus advancing step by step or reincarnation by reincarnation to a state of perfection conducive to the person we are.
There is wisdom in the fact that we do not remember our previous lives. The soul only concerns itself with the effects of those lives – not the details and circumstances by which these effects were incurred, thus building a receptiveness for either good or bad Karma; good deeds, innocent suffering, for instance, are rewarded with good Karma in the next life, evil deeds and violations against natural laws with bad Karma.
Bad Karma, in other words, is punishment for our sins. Our evolution varies from person to person. Some of us are more evolved than others, depending on how many incarnations we have experienced on this Earth and how well we have learned our lessons. A few of us are so highly advanced that no further reincarnation is necessary as perfection has been reached to live in eternal bliss in the spiritual universe.
We attract our own Karma. Good Karma is something that has to be earned. We are forever—every moment of our lives—creating the conditions for our own retribution. That’s why we have to be careful about what we think and, consequently, what we do.
The road to perfection is a long and slow process—it leads to untold reincarnations. That is why we should make progress pleasant, not one of adversity and suffering.
We mustn’t seek someone else’s advice when we don’t know what choice to make in life but instead rely on our instinct—listen to the little voice within—and thus not interfere with the laws that have incurred our Karma.
For better or worse, we should gladly submit to it, thereby shortening the road to ultimate spiritual perfection.
