My Tips For Cooking Sushi Rice and why I DO NOT WASH THE RICE!

The vitamin is B1 (thiamine), a deficiency of B1 causes a disease called Beri-Beri. By washing the rice, it’s removed.

The rice brand SunRise Sushi Rice is the one I use, it is a short translucent grain, which is perfect to make Sushi.

Obento Yaki Nori for Sushi (10 Sheets in a packet – this recipe makes about 14 Rolls) Tried other brands, like this one better.

My Tips For Cooking Sushi Rice and why I DO NOT WASH THE RICE!My method is as follows:

* One cup of Unwashed SunRise Sushi Rice.

* Pour the rice into a pot and add two cups of water.

* Stir rice with a wooden spoon to bring it up from the bottom.

* Bring first to boil and turn the heat down, keep stirring the rice until the water has nearly absorbed.

* Remove the pot and stand it to cool off for 15 minutes, as it cools more moisture will evaporate.

Apply the rice when cooled to the Nori sheet. If it is still hot, it will dampen it. Not very pleasant to eat!

While the rice is cooling, make the dressing.

2 Tablespoons of Certified Organic-Apple Cider Vinegar.

A quarter teaspoon of Himalayan Salt

1 Teaspoon of Raw Sugar

* Mix all three ingredients thoroughly and pour this mixture into the warmed rice.
* Use a wooden spoon to stir it in thoroughly.
Why use a wooden spoon you may ask? This spoon will not cut into the rice grains, as a metal spoon would.

Before Applying the Sushi Rice to the Nori Sheets:

Fold Nori sheets in half like the professionals do. Make a sharp crease and carefully separate each leaf. The rough side of the Nori sheet is the side to apply the rice too.

Use a wet tablespoon and insert into the rice, spoon out the amount you wish to use on the Nori sheet.

The back of the spoon is used to spread it to the thickness and width that you want.
The more rice you use, the fewer Sushi rolls you will make. When the rice sticks to your spoon, insert it into a cup of water to allow a smooth application.

My Tips For Cooking Sushi Rice and why I DO NOT WASH THE RICE! (1)Cut into long thin strips for the following ingredients and have it ready for putting on the Nori sheet. With the salad, mixed leafs break into smaller pieces. Cut a thin slice of avocado and place it on top.
Cucumber
Carrot
Red Capsicum
Mixed salad leaves (pre-packaged variety)
Avocado

Use a Sushi Mat – it makes it easier to roll.

* Prepare the Nori sheet by wetting the top end on the rough side.
* Not too much water, place a knife in front of the filling and hold it.
* Bring the back of the Nori sheet up with the sushi mat and pull over the ingredients meeting with the knife.
* Remove the blade carefully. Seal it at this point by pressing down momentarily.
* Continue to roll until you reach the end of the Nori sheet. If it does not seal at the end, add a little more water to make it stick.
